Lord Montague

Lord Montague in the play serves as Romeo's biological father who seems to have a disconnect with his son only appearing after the initial brawl with the Capulets, the death of Mercutio and the end of the play.

In the movie, to further the disconnect with Romeo and essentially his entire world, the decision was made to cut Lady Montague all together and give the sense that Lord Montague was a single parent trying to do what he can to keep the Montague household upright.
